Michael Napier is recognised as one of the most creative and innovative lawyers of his generation in the private and public sectors. During a long and successful legal career he has been a highly effective champion of the reform and modernisation of the civil justice system.
Mike Napier is a solicitor (non practising) who was voted ‘Lawyer of the Year’ in the 2012 Legal Business awards for his 30 years as senior partner leading Irwin Mitchell ‘from a small Sheffield practice to the national powerhouse it is today on the brink of becoming a pioneering ABS firm’ (it now is).
Beyond his reputation as a practitioner in many landmark cases
is widely regarded as a progressive thinker and influential architect of major reforms to the civil justice system and fundamental changes in the market for legal services. As an accredited mediator his focus has always been on the delivery of fair and pragmatic solutions to complex problems.
Since his Presidency of the Law Society in 2001 Michael was the Attorney-General’s pro bono envoy between 2001 – 2015. Having stood down as Chairman of Irwin Mitchell Holdings Ltd in 2012 he is now a consultant and trusted advisor on civil justice, litigation funding and the business of law. In September 2012 Michael Napier became a consultant to Harbour Litigation Funding Ltd. where he is now Lead Non-Executive Director.
